Island View High School

• On Thursday, December 12, Island View is hosting its annual Semi-Formal Dance from 6:30 pm-9:30 pm. All tickets must be purchased prior to the dance. Ticket costs are $ 7.00 or $5.00 with a non-perishable food item. Ticket sales are every day at lunch in the main entrance.   Guest sign-ins are only permitted by grade 11 and 12 students. Guests being signed-in must be in good standing (no suspensions) with their respected school.  Any Island View High School student who is unsure if they are eligible for the dance are to see Administration prior to the dance.

• The intramural sport from now until the break will be basketball. Come on out and have fun playing or officiating some of your favourite sports. If you are interested please pop by the gym at lunch to talk with one of the PE Teachers.  Monday-Thursday 10:50am-11:20am

• Please remember no eating in the gym.

• The winter weather is here which means messier feet. Please make sure your footwear is clean and dry before entering the gym. Clean footwear only.

• To any students that are currently in grade 10 and 11 who are interested in the school trip to the Dominican Republic and their parents missed the information session last week due to weather - there will be a parent meeting on Monday December 9th at 6:30 p.m. Parents are invited to come to ask questions and find out more about this trip.

• GSA meeting is cancelled today.

• Dinner Theatre Writing Team will meet Thursday at lunch in Room 214.

• Wondering if you have an overdue Library Book? Check your gnspes email account for a notice from the library.

• Creative Club meets Wednesdays at lunch in room 223.  Bring your creativity!

• Yearbook meeting Mondays at lunch in 321. 

• The Yearbook committee is looking for all artists at Island View to create the cover for the 2019-2020 Island View yearbook. Send covers to Ms. Griffin in room 321. 

• Pre-orders for yearbooks can be purchased on Wednesdays at lunch in the lobby for $45 and students who have purchased a yearbook will be put into a draw to win their yearbook for free (winner will be refunded their $45).

• If you are in your graduating year at IVHS, the yearbook needs your grad quotes. Fill in the google form posted on the potential Grad google classroom, deadline Dec. 20th.

• Freezie Friday! Every Friday at lunch purchase a freezie for only $1 in support of students going on the Europe Trip.

• Programming club, room 309 at 2:10 Thursdays.  

• Guitar club Tuesdays in the music room at lunch. 

• Open Art Studio Mondays and Thursdays at lunch are in 117.  All are welcome. 
 
GUIDANCE AND GRADE 12 INFORMATION

• Tallahassee and Ocean View Elementary are looking for students from Island View to work with and support some of their students during the school week. This would involve playing sports and games, arts and craft, and taking students for walks. This is an excellent volunteer activity for any student; if you are interested please see Mr. O’Reilly in guidance.

• Attention grade 12s, five new scholarships have been posted outside of the guidance office. Values of these scholarships range from $500 to $80,000. For more information on these scholarships, please check with Mr. O’Reilly in guidance.

• A rep from the University of King’s College will be at the today during lunch. University of King’s College is a smaller university known for their journalism and Foundation Year Program; please stop by at lunch for more information.

• Grade 12s; are you worried about paying for university or college after high school? Are you frustrated trying to find scholarships that fit what you have to offer? When you find scholarships, are you at a loss of how to apply and what information is important? If so, you should attend the award-winning funding your future scholarship presentation is taking place on Thursday, December 5 during lunch, where you will learn where to find scholarships, how to apply, what’s important and other sources of funding.

REMINDERS

• Students bringing cars to school are asked to drop by the main office and provide us with your name, car make and model and license plate.

• Students are not to park in the gravel HRM lot next door.  You are asked to park in the school’s lot next to Seaside Elementary.

• A reminder that eating food in the gym is not permitted. Please eat your food out of the gym before entering.

• A reminder that we are a scent-aware building so please be respectful with regard to the use of scents.
