Island View High School

November 18th, 2020

• This Friday, November 20th, is the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. People and organizations around the country participate in this day to help raise awareness, address issues the community faces and honor the memory of transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.  On Friday you can show your support by wearing the colors of the transgender flag: Pink, Blue &/or White.

• Here at Island View we acknowledge that mental health is a very important and serious thing.  Mental illness affects people of all ages, education, income levels, and cultures. And, in Canada, out of all the many people who deal with mental health only 1 out of 5 children and youth who need mental health services receives them.  It’s important to treat yourself when dealing with mental health, so from now on we will be doing a mental health tip of the day.  Today’s tip.

Take care of your body. Mental and physical health are fundamentally linked. Make sure to get enough sleep, drink lots of water, and eat well. Getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety. Eating well is fundamental to good health and well-being.
