• Student Council Co- Prez applications are now available online and from the main office. Applications are due today, May 6th.

• Next week is the Canadian Mental Health Association’s annual Mental Health Week.  To promote support & awareness, the Island View High School Jack.org chapter will host a booth at lunchtime on Tuesday May 7th, 2019 to hand out some free Jack swag, information on mental health week, and hand out mental health support ribbons.  Come see us on Tuesday!

• Students on the Europe Trip will be selling Freezies and snacks at lunch in the lobby on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until the end of the year.

• Intramurals Monday to Thursday from 10:45-11:20am.

• Boys’ slo-pitch practice Monday, after school, 2:15 p.m.  We had a great turn for first practice all are welcome.

• Track and field practices and softball start this week. Any students interested are asked to check the main board outside the gym for practice times.

• Jazz Band, Wednesday after school.

• Island View Art Club, Room 117, Mondays and Thursdays at lunch. 

• Tabletop games, Room 214 after school Tuesdays. 

• Coding club Thursday after school from 2:15 - 4 PM, room 309. Bring your Chromebook.

• African Nova Scotian students interested in a career in the health professions are invited to apply to this year’s African Nova Scotian Health Sciences Summer Camp. Camps take place at Dalhousie, St. FX and Cape Breton University in July and are open to students in grade 9, 10 and 11. The deadline to apply for this opportunity is today, May 3rd.

• African Nova Scotian students interested in going to university or college to study in a health or science field are invited to apply for the Plans Prep Institute. This program is for grade 10, 11 and 12 students with a focus on skills development to prepare for post-secondary success and ease the transition from high school. This program takes place at Dalhousie University from July 2-5; interested students must apply not later than today, May 3. For more information on these two opportunities, students should check with guidance.

• Students interested in part-time work in the seafood and aquaculture industry, with the potential of earning a bursary ranging from $500-$1000 for college or university in the process, can see guidance for more information and application process.
