Community Memo-November 19, 2020

Dear IVHS Community,

Report card time is upon us and soon you will be receiving your child’s report card for first term of Semester 1.
There are a few things we want to make sure you are aware of.

Tomorrow is an Assessment and Evaluation day for Elementary and Junior Highs. IVHS is a High School with students in grades 9-12. We have regular classes tomorrow.

1. Report Cards will be emailed on November 26. We will follow the same method of distribution that we used for the last two report cards of last year. Report Cards will be sent to the Parent’s email address that we have on file. If you wish to update  or confirm an email address please contact Cathy Mason at cmason@hrce.ca

2. December 3- We will be having virtual Parent –Teacher Interviews. We will send out a communication like this next week outlining how parents can book a phone call with their student’s teacher to discuss student progress.

3.       A report card is a snapshot of your student’s progress. There is a lot that happens in your student’s learning that doesn’t necessarily get captured in the report card comments.   Please feel free to communicate with your child’s teacher regularly if you have any questions or book an appointment to talk to your student’s teachers on, or around, December 3.

4. Our school year began like no other – with the pandemic affecting our in person learning and necessitating a lot of changes in school routines.
We want you to know that our teachers have been working hard with students to help them move forward in their learning from where they began in September.  Our report cards will look the same as they did in years past.  Because of this unprecedented year and the emphasis on Social and Emotional Learning in September this mark may be based on fewer marks than normal. This mark is a snapshot of where your students are, and does not necessarily represent 50% of the term’s work.

We see our role as part of a team that includes you (the guardians/parents) and our staff - supporting your child academically and socially.  Thank you for the support and kindness you have shown our teachers as we prepare students during a school year like no other.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Kind Regards,

Pat Savage
