September 7: Opening Day at Island View High School

Hello IVHS Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! My name is Randolph Sullivan, Principal of Island View High School. I am very much looking forward to meeting your children and building strong positive relationships between school and home, as we partner in supporting your child’s well-being and learning.

Vice Principal Danny Smith and I would like to extend a warm welcome back to our current students and parents/guardians, and a very special welcome to students and parents/guardians who are new to IVHS! When students return to school for their first day on Tuesday, September 7th, they will return to a school setting that looks and feels much more like it did pre-COVID. However, to ensure schools are as safe as possible, core public health measure will remain in place. These include:

  •  Frequent hand washing and sanitizing

  • Cleaning of high-touch surfaces

  • Staying home if you are feeling sick (Current daily checklist attached)

Additionally, all students, staff, and visitors will be required to wear masks inside schools and while riding the school bus to start the school year. Schools will transition away from mandatory masks once the province reaches Phase 5 of its re-opening plan.

Opening Day:

Students return to school on Tuesday, September 7th with classes beginning at 8:00 AM (please see attached bell-schedule). Upon arriving to school on the first day students are to enter the building using the doors indicated for their grade level:

  • Grade 9’s: Main Entrance

  • Grade 10’s: Back doors by Cafeteria

  • Grade 11’s &12’s: Exterior gym doors

Please note that this is only for the first day of school. All students may enter the building using the main entrance on subsequent days of the school year.

Once in the building students will check the lists posted nearby for their name and their B-block classroom number, as this is the location for their first class of the day. Their B-block teacher will provide them with a printed copy of their schedule as well as a Chromebook contract to be taken home and signed prior to being issued a Chromebook for the year.

Student Council members, available teachers, and the admin team will be present to help direct students who may need help finding their way.

PowerSchool:

Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to utilize their access to PowerSchool. If you or your child do not have access to PowerSchool, please contact our Registrar, Nigel Mailman, by phone at 902.466.6341 ext. 4, or by email at nmailman@gnspes.ca.

There is no need to contact Mr. Mailman to have a Student Portal password reset. Students can now reset their own password following the steps outlined on the attached quick reference sheet.
